New Beginnings

Hi everyone!

First of all, I want to apologize for not posting in a while. Second, I want to explain a small change I’m making to inconformista.

I’m hoping to combine my two loves, fashion and writing, in a unique manner. From here on out, each post will include a literary piece (that I wrote) that relates to the outfit. It could be anything from a poem, to an essay, to a short story.

The skirt shimmers like

Crumpled water—each stitch sewn

With stars on a moonless night.

Darkness and light intertwine,

Yet they never become one.

*The poem above is called a Tanka poem. Basically it’s a haiku’s older brother. It consist of five lines: the first has 5 syllables, the second has 7, the third has 5, and the fourth and fifth have 7.

It’s January—you know what that means? It’s time to scour the internet in search for that dream fashion-related internship or job. Luckily, there are some websites that can help us out with that:

Now once you find that dream job and land an interview, there’s one last thing you have to figure out—what you’re going to wear.

The most important thing to know when picking out an outfit is this: Choose an outfit that represents your unique self. There are no other you-s in the world, so embrace who you are and flaunt it. If you feel comfortable and confident, it will show.

Now if you need some brainstorming ideas, I’ve got you covered. I chose the traditional, professional look—sleek top, blazer, skirt, and heels, but made sure my style still shone through (quite literally). I used the skirt as my statement piece. Its unique color and shimmer sets it apart from the usual office-y, pencil skirt (although those are killer too). Having a statement piece that I felt represented my style gave me the confidence to make up for the fact that I’m quite terrible at walking in heels (don’t be afraid to opt for flats if this is you too). Thankfully, they were short so I was able to avoid falling on my face.

If you need some more advice about what to wear to an interview, or heck, anything about interviews in general, feel free to contact me and hopefully I can help out or point you in the right direction!

Thank you for reading—much love.
