Synthetic

Synthetic

For once in our lives

we’ve found something

plastic

that makes flesh

pale

a Barbie that’s larger than life,

something we manifest—

a plastic mold we create

in our minds.

Or wait

perhaps we’ve just

uncovered

our own nurture

to be

or not to be

the Styrofoam peanuts of nature,

the plastic bags instead of paper,

the barbies of our generation.

But

if we can’t discern the

difference

how do we know which is

plastic, and which is

flesh?

Hello, sir, would you like

paper or plastic

today?

Hi Everyone!

Unfortunately, much of today’s society is obsessed with the plastic things in life—materialism, conformity, and putting forth the ideal, accepted, Barbie-self. The line between flesh and plastic has been blurred to the point of no recognition. Photoshop rules all media and produces the Barbie-ideal person we’re brainwashed to try to become. We have become too concerned with how we are perceived by everyone else that we forget who we truly are. But that’s just not the way we were made to live.

We were made to be our own “special edition,” not some mass-produced Barbie or Ken doll.

Yeah yeah we’ve all heard it, but a little reminder doesn’t hurt.

I recently suffered an injury to my knee, and I could have gritted my teeth and done this shoot without my crutch and knee wrap because those mark me as different, weak, and unattractive to the Barbie-Believers, but that’s just not me, or at least the me I strive to be. I take pride in my quirks, my strengths and my weaknesses, and my uniqueness. I am Inconformista.

That’s what this blog is about—inconformista is Spanish for “to not conform” and stands for embracing uniqueness in whichever form it comes. Sometimes we all need a little reminder or push to remain true to ourselves because it’s hard not to fall victim to societies expectations—I would be lying if I said I was immune to it. So yeah it’s difficult, but we’re not perfect now are we?

Stay Unique.

Thanks for reading,

Miranda

  1. You truly are unique, Miranda. 🙂 In this post, you have the courage to show your imperfections that’s why I admire your confidence. But hey, you are still attractive. I am glad nothing really bad happened to you. You still look gorgeous despite the knee injury. Get well the soonest. 🙂 😉 😀
